Which colors are most effective in designing websites? Why are school buses yellow? How is color perceived in different cultures?
These are just some of the questions you’ll find the answers to on ColorMatters, a cool site I stumbled on years ago that examines issues driving color in design, business and marketing.
Color is hugely influential in todays cluttered marketplace. Choosing the right colors for your logo, headlines, calls-to-action and just about anything deserves research and deep consideration.
Here are a few tips that I picked up on the color yellow:
- Rolling out a Smart Food to movie theatres in China? Heads up: Adult movies in China are referred to as yellow movies.
- What color stands out most with lots of clutter or dark atmosphere? People notice yellow objects first, and lateral peripheral vision for detecting yellow is 1.24 time greater than for red.
I have a yellow test running now on WriterAccess for our call to action buttons. Go yellow! Hopefully our conversion rates will improve, thanks to sites like ColorMatters that spark ideas and campaigns to test.
Your blog makes me wonder How did the yellow school bus come about anyways?
Hi Byron,
Any update on your conversion numbers? Any increases with the color change?
Justin
