Before you dive into SEO writing, you have to know what keyword you’re writing for. Presumably, you know this.
But what keyword (or keywords) should you be optimizing for?
Let Alex Trebek be your guide.
Alex Trebek, as you probably know, is the longtime host of the TV game show Jeopardy. His job is to read the answers and remind the contestants to ask the questions. The answers always come first on Jeopardy, and the trick is to figure out what the original question was.
Alex might say, “A marketing technique that focuses on getting other web sites to link to you.” Buzz! “What is link building?” And Mr. Trebek would say, “that is correct!”
What does Alex Trebek and Jeopardy have to do with picking the right keyword for SEO?
Keywords aren’t about what you have to tell visitors to your web site. The answer is your web content, but keywords are the questions that potential visitors ask.
When you’re making your keyword list, look at your content as if you’re playing a game of Jeopardy. Make a list of potential questions that your content could be the answer to. Make note of how you phrase the questions and think about how you might type that question into a search field at Google. Just like in Jeopardy, you have to start at the end and work backwards to uncover the best SEO keywords for the information you’re providing.
Once you’ve got your Alex Trebek list, head to a free SEO tool to get recommendations on the best questions to use and the exact phrasing you should be writing for.
