As more information and images come in from Haiti, people all over the world have been dumbfounded by the devastation the 7.0-magnitude earthquake has inflicted upon hundreds of thousands of men, women and children. Several individuals and businesses are now asking: How can I help?
Let’s make no bones about it: The very best thing you can do is send money to your preferred relief organization. The second best thing you can do is inspire others to do the same – and your content marketing skills and abilities can be of service.
- Get off topic for a moment. If there’s a cause that’s important to you or a major catastrophe you hope to urge your audience to act on, take a moment and talk about it. Use your blog, vlog (video), podcast, Facebook account and / or Twitter to get the message across. It doesn’t matter if you normally just talk about nutrition or car parts – as more everyday people take a moment to spread the word, the more people will understand the magnitude of the issue at hand. Support similar actions by others by commenting on their blogs or retweeting their relevant Twitter messages.
- Include media clips. As much as this freelance writer likes to talk about the power of the written word, video can have incredible impact. Not only can a video – particularly one that captures the human face of a tragedy – communicate the situation, by helping to make the video “popular” on YouTube, the more likely it is to be featured on the front page and stumbled upon by others.
- Link keywords for a cause. Put your SEO knowledge to use and help elevate the search engine result status of your preferred charity / relief organization / news service by linking strategic keywords in your blog post to their home pages. Here are some frequently entered keywords – hover over them or click on them to see how we’ve directed them:
