Earlier today at the Web 2.0 Summit, Bing announced it had become the first search engine to integrate Twitter feeds in search results (it also has a deal with Facebook – more on that later). And just now, Google’s letting us know they’ll be the second search engine to index Tweets.
The interwebs move quickly, don’t they?
Until today, the bulk of Tweets had to be searched via Twitter at http://search.twitter.com – thanks to Bing, you now have options. Besides finding Twitter conversations in your regular Bing search, you can also look exclusively for Tweets on Bing through http://www.bing.com/Twitter. Google is expected to roll out its Twitter-functionality in a few months.
What does this mean for your content marketing? If you haven’t already, you’ll want to ensure your main keywords are within your Tweets if you want them to be picked up a la search engine.
What does this mean for your everyday searching? People who don’t normally use Twitter are likely to catch more up-to-the-minute / first-hand info on various topics from the Twitterverse. Just keep in mind where you’re getting these updates from – Tweeters are known for their sense of (dark) humor.
