These are the questions on everyone’s mind: What is BING? How will it affect my SEO strategy? What does this mean to all of the hard work I have put into my content and optimization?

Here are some of the guidelines we have seen pop up so far with regard to Bing and how it categorizes search listings.

First of all, there is much talk that Bing, as an engine, is smarter or “more aware” than Google bots are. (Oh my God, this is it. The robots have become self-aware. This is my ultimate nightmare.)

Bing appears to not only “find” your content, but it makes intelligent decisions regarding what your content is, which are driven by a slightly different set of rules than Google uses. (Be aware that this is speculation. I have no hard facts or proof.)

Bing appears to weigh the “age” of a domain more heavily. The longer you have been around, the more street cred you carry as a website.

Bing likes content. But not just some content, loads of content. Bing appears to respond better to pages with at least 300 words of text or more.

Google has not placed as much weight on bloggers in the past. It is said that Bing is a friend of bloggers and may weigh blogs quite heavily.

Bing appears to like great titles that are directly relevant to your content. So don’t phone in your titles, you lazy shlub.

Keep your URL’s simple. Bing hasn’t got time to read your URL manifestos. He is a busy guy with places to be.

Lastly, Bing likes outbound links, contrary to Google that has, in the past, prevented websites from posting too many outbound links out of fear of lowering their rank.

Make sure your website allows MSNbots to crawl your content. If you don’t know how to do this, go find your IT guy. Those guys are magical.

Earlier today at the Web 2.0 Summit, Bing announced it had become the first search engine to integrate Twitter feeds in search results (it also has a deal with Facebook – more on that later). And just now, Google’s letting us know they’ll be the second search engine to index Tweets.

The interwebs move quickly, don’t they?

Until today, the bulk of Tweets had to be searched via Twitter at http://search.twitter.com – thanks to Bing, you now have options. Besides finding Twitter conversations in your regular Bing search, you can also look exclusively for Tweets on Bing through http://www.bing.com/Twitter. Google is expected to roll out its Twitter-functionality in a few months.

What does this mean for your content marketing? If you haven’t already, you’ll want to ensure your main keywords are within your Tweets if you want them to be picked up a la search engine.

What does this mean for your everyday searching? People who don’t normally use Twitter are likely to catch more up-to-the-minute / first-hand info on various topics from the Twitterverse. Just keep in mind where you’re getting these updates from – Tweeters are known for their sense of (dark) humor.

It was an equally exciting post-Memorial Day week for the big world of search and the little world of ideaLaunch.

Microsoft announced the debut of Bing, its newest search engine to replace the cumbersome Live Search in the company’s latest attempt at undermining Google’s dominant market share of search advertising dollars. What will this mean for SEO? Will Bing’s new options for vertical search make finding just the right make, color, style and price of Marc Jacobs bag easier for me to find online? If it can pass this test, I’m sold. I’ll give it a try next Wednesday when Bing becomes available to the public.

ideaLaunch employees saw the rough cut of our first marketing video starring representatives of all departments. The creator, our new A/V intern, Addy Lifton, is a technical whiz; she worked her magic and made each one of us look great! You’re going to love what she did to document our appearance at NE XPO last week. Stay tuned for the release in early June right here on the ideaLaunch blog.

By now you may be wondering what a picture of a gold velvet Rococo-era couch is doing on this blog post. We have Byron to thank for his hi-low street-savvy sense of style. He spotted this beauty (affectionately known as “Dead Guy Couch” for its curious origins and suspicious red cushion stains) on the street outside our North End office. Like a hungry lion on the Sahara, without any hesitation he swooped in for the kill. He hauled his prize up three flights of stairs (okay, he took the elevator and Sean helped), and while no one wants to sit on it, the office has a great conversation starter.
