Bob Pearson, the former VP of Communities and Conversations at Dell, recently left Dell and is now President of the Blog Council. I had a chance to interview Bob two weeks ago for the LifeTips WebMasterRadio show. Tomorrow my recording is airing on the LifeTips WebMasterRadio.FM show. Here are some of the questions I asked Bob. Once the interview is produced and broadcasted I will add a link here.

1. You are well-known for your work at Dell. Now that you have become President of the Blog Council, how are you going to put some of those lessons to use with the council and members?

2. Because of social media I think there’s a new dynamic with content publishing. Companies can publish content by themselves. How much do you think public relations strategies influence companies’ choices about what content they publish?

3. How do you see the development of building social media company infrastructure within large organizations? Any views on employees, roles, people? Any thoughts on what software and technology can do for companies?

4. What are the biggest problems facing big companies when it comes to using social media?

5. Your background includes working at several pharmaceutical companies: Novartis, Rhone-Poulec Rorer, Ciba-Geigy. In public affairs and communications, how important was content to those companies, and how do you think companies in the pharmaceutical industry can address the issue of developing content for social media?

6. Semantic technologies appear to be playing a big role in social media analysis and triage. Where do you think this industry is heading?

7. I thought Josh Bernoff’s question a few months ago was very intriguing. Based on his research, do companies really need a blog? Then I thought about Comcast; they have been successful with social media but until recently did not have a blog. They use a great engagement strategy. Is social media more about whether a company has an engagement strategy rather than a blog or other social media technology?
