Why Your Customers Love Your Content Marketing Blog

July 12th, 2013 by

several people sharing their opinions and voicingSuccessful Internet marketing has many business owners puzzled and maybe even a little afraid to enter the game. It’s new, it’s esoteric, and how do you know if it’s doing any good anyway? Blogs are one of the most effective ways to engage customers online and analysis of your blog content performance is the ideal way to gauge why your customers love your content marketing blog. Feedback is instant and easy.

Generate a lively conversation online just as you do in the shop by inviting your online customers to participate in your blog. How?

  • Monday – Highlight a different product every week. Tell your customers all kinds of nifty things about it. Put it on sale for the week. Include a coupon that can be used only by people who see a promo code on your blog post.
  • Tuesday – Start a contest. Ask customers to submit photos, stories, or ideas describing how they’ve used this week’s featured product or service in novel ways. Have your readers vote on their favorite. The winner will be announced on Friday.
  • Wednesday – Declare it Hilarious Hump Day! Invite your readers to submit a joke of the day. Choose a different subject each week – dogs, used car salesmen, numbers, lawyers, whatever – as long as it’s submitted in the name of good clean fun. This will work most effectively from a content performance perspective if the subject of the joke ties in somehow with the product featured on Monday.
  • Thursday – It’s back down to business. Schedule a question-and-answer session. Specify a time – 1:00 to 3:00 maybe? – and name a member of the staff who’ll answer today’s questions. Make sure the company representative designated as the day’s Q&A person is available and can devote undivided attention to customer questions during the entire session. Don’t leave the questions hanging. Provide speedy answers.
  • Friday – Time to chill and think of fun stuff for the weekend. Tally Tuesday’s contest votes and announce the winner. Give away a special coupon with a deep discount, a free lunch, or something inexpensive but pleasant so your readers will want to enter the contest next Tuesday. Spend the rest of the day encouraging your readers to submit photos of their pets.

In the store, you may have charming personnel, soothing music and candles, the greatest salesman in the world, a great big huggable dog in residence, and a fresh pot of coffee to entice your customers to keep coming back for more.

Reader engagement will be slow at first, of course, but consistency will generate more interest with every blog post. You’ll seem busier and your content performance analytics will prove your suspicions.

I love the day or the week template idea. I struggle to get my clients to create ideas for content, but this template is perfect to help them “blue spark” their minds into what to create in terms of original content.
