Back to School Backpack Safety
Back to school means many transitions and lots of preparation. When choosing a new backpack like Tinker Bell backpacks or Spiderman backpacks for the “big day”, there are a few things you should look for and know about in order to make sure the backpack is safe for your child:
1. The backpack should have wide shoulder straps and a padded back for comfort.
2. The backpack should not weigh more than 10 to 20 percent of the child’s body weight, so pack light. Organize the supplies with heavier items in the center of the bag.
3. Wearing a backpack on one shoulder may strain muscles so a child should always use both shoulder straps to make sure the weight is distributed evenly.
4. Rolling backpacks may be a good choice for students who carry a heavy load, but the rolling packs have some setbacks also. Rolling backpacks can cause strain to the back if not used properly; they may be difficult to roll through the snow and they still have to be carried up stairs.
Backpack safety is essential when it comes to the health of your children. Following a few safety precautions will assist you in keeping your child safe for back to school and throughout the year.
