Winter Preschool Activities

Many parents know that winter activities for kids can be limited when it gets too cold to go outside. If you live in a climate that experiences harsh winters often, you may find yourself scrambling to find fun preschool activities to do at home, especially when you two start to get tired of being in the house. You already know that playing games with your child can be a great time, but you also know that most preschoolers can only play games for so long before they get antsy.

On the days when you are snowed in consider fashioning a theme for the day centered on a favorite game. For example, if your preschooler loves the HI HO! CHERRY O game you can start the theme day with the game itself and then move on to other activities that complement the game. Try making a dessert that has cherries as a main ingredient. Create and decorate cherries from paper and then hide them around the house for your preschooler to find and place into baskets. You can even play some music and create dances that involve picking cherries or pretending to be cherries falling from a tree. Your little one will appreciate the correlation between her favorite game and the activities for the day, and it will be easier to avoid cabin fever if you’re both engaged in fun projects and games throughout the day.
